Anjali
Today was a frosty, cloudy morning; I struggled hard to get
out of my warm bed, half awake, took off my warm blanket, every
day I leave by 8:15 for work.
Henry drops me at work, and for last 5 months we have been
traveling through the same road, every morning and evening while returning home
there is moving traffic and traffic jams, there are two red lights where we
have to halt for few minute every day. There
is one red light where we see similar people begging every day, small kid
dancing on the beat of dolak ( DRUM ) . We always pass them by until Henry brought some biscuits intentionally for the kids and kept in the car, as usual we were waiting for red-light to turn green,
when this small girl started performing some gymnastic to gain public attention , to earn some money
out of it. She went from one car to another and now she is walked towards our car, I knew the moment she comes to us
Henry will pass her a biscuit pack , but Henry went a step ahead asking
her what ‘s her name , he asked her appka nam kya hai, (what is your name) ,
she replied in her soft voice Anglie , that moment I saw her face like many smiles were put on
her face together , she spoke further ( paisa de do) give me some money , Henry
said biscuit lelo ( take this biscuit
pack) . she was happy and she left, I have been seeing this girl (Angli) for
months and months , she came to my window side I never asked her name . but now
I know, I know her and I can see more of her needs, I can see that she is cold
and without proper winter cloths, I can see , she is hungry ,because Today when Henry
asked her name and the detail of a person
was encoded in my head. I know I will
see her tomorrow at the same red light, performing the same gymnastic and this
time we can call her by her name, Anjali . It’s not all about the money, they
need people to recognize them, be friendly with them and make them feel loved.
And supply to their needs.
Happy is the generous man, the one who feeds the poor
